This past Thursday, I did my first "Light the night" 5k. It was for the Leukemia and Lymphoma society. It was a last minute decision but I am glad I did. My boyfriend and pup joined me and it was definitely an interesting walk to say the least. We started walking and noticed the route was heading up a bridge. It was a bridge I have walked over before, using the sidewalk on it of course, so I thought I would be fine. I was alright until we got to the grating part of it. What freaked me out is I could see the water below me. I did not like that one bit! So I told myself, just don't look down again and I didn't, but I could feel the grating so intensely under my feet that it was still freaking me out. Funny thing is, Justin is the one scared of heights and he kept me pretty calm by holding my hand and telling me, "Not much longer", even though it seemed like forever.
After getting off the grating part of the bridge, I was fine again. Walking down the bridge being able to see Friendship fountain, one of my favorite places here in town was pretty cool. We walked for another mile or so until we realized, we were heading up another bridge. This bridge is a lot higher up than the previous one, so I was nervous at first but remembered, it didn't have the grating so I talked myself into walking over it. I wasn't going to let the bridge beat me. Justin on the other hand, couldn't do it. It was too high for him so I had to leave him. I felt bad but the feeling of walking over that bridge, by myself, and finishing the walk, was worth it. Ha, sorry, Justin but I still love you.
This year I did my first 5K and I loved it. They seem to clear my mind and help with the everyday stress. Since my Dad was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in January, I want to participate in as many cancer related walks as possible. Here are a few of the walks I have signed up for.
